Bintan 2008

This year's annual chalet was held at Indra Maya, Bintan. The place was fabulous, the food splendid, and the people wonderful! Truly an enjoyable weekend with friends. Here to share are some of the photos taken from my hubby's camera as I was smart enough to bring my camera with spare battery, but left the 1G memory card safely at home :( grrrrr

Thanks to Huasoon for inviting us over and helping to book the villa that we stayed in that consist of 3 bedrooms, a private pool, a 6 seater buggy, fully equipt kitchen, and even comes with its own Mahjong set.


Next was the wonderful food. We always bring our own food to cook, and this year was no different. As I only arrived Friday night, the photos here only show the menu of my stay there. Please click photo to view menu in detail.


During the night of the BBQ, one of the interesting activities we did was take photo's of us playing fireworks and spelling/drawing out stuff. The banner for today you see is the word "Love" written with fireworks and captured at night. Cool huh? Here are the couple photos shown here of what is written, and by who. I wonder if we'll look back at these photo's 10, 20 years from now and think how stupid we look :P The video is definately funnier. Hope I can share the video of how the photo was made, and the end result side by side with you once I manage to get them from QX's camera.

Last but not lease, here are some group photo's of us. The family photo is yet to come (also in QX's camera as she is the only one with a 10x zoom camera there :P ). I'll upload those in future :)


Finally, thanks to all my friends who were there. Let's keep up the tradition yearly. Believe it or not, I've known some of you for almost 10 years now! And every year the group has grown! From loony university friends, to gf/bf, husband and wife. May our group grew even larger (cause we need a baby in our group to get privilege boarding at the Bintan ferry queue).

See you in next year's Chalet! (but KTV still onz whole year round!)

AIBI Elliptical Cross Trainer

If Cordy can't go to the gym, then the gym must come to Cordy! So say me, and we went and got ourselves an AIBI Elliptical Cross Trainer :)

Was it worth it? Too early to say yet, but I did my first trial run on it today, 30 minutes, burned 180 cal. Not too bad for a start. There are 12 training program options, and the machine runs on battery or electricity, and comes with 1 year warranty. It's cheaper then a gym membership, plus I don't have to pay transport cost to go to the gym. I think its a good buy, and the reference link below supports my findings!

The bad part is, I forgot to ensure that the machine is able to take in my weight when calculating my workout :( But no worries, so long as I am sweating, and getting 3 times exercise a weak and burning fats, I'm happy :)

Singapore River Festival

Was at Central today meeting up with friends for our annual chalet planning session, and happen to chance upon the Singapore River Festival in full swing at Clark Quey and Boat Quey. We managed to catch the LEGENDA SINGAPURA: A BUMBOAT EXTRAVAGANZA BY SINGAPORE RIVER CRUISES @ 7pm. The performance, staged at the entrance of Central facing the river, lasted 1 hour, and the highlight to me was the Indonesian dance, as well as the Lion Dance portion. Do drop by before 28th September to catch it. You can refer to the schedule in the reference link below for the timing.

Along the underpass from Clark Quey to Boat Quey, there are also arts exhibition to brighten up your walk. Both side of the river is also decorated with lights, and there was an out door concert playing in front of the Asian Civilization Museum. We didn't manage to catch the concert as we had to hurry home for dinner with my dad. Do drop by to soak in the atmosphere, especially next weekend when the Singapore F1 Night Race will be in session.

HTC Themes

I've been trying to look for Totoro themes for ages, but now the look is over. I can now make my own themes! And since there is a lack of Japanese Anime themes around, I've decided to create some from my fave anime :) Check out the image file here. You can download it and zoom in to see the detail. It has been almost two months since I blog about how much I love my phone :P

Free Concert @ Esplanade

This blog is fast becoming a site that updates good bargain, cheap buys and free hangout places in Singapore!

Here's another happening event coming this Sunday 14th September 2008. The Singapore Youth Chinese Orchestra is having a concert at the Esplanade Concert Hall. Admission is FREE! A normal Concert Hall ticket usually will cost you at most S$30 for a back seat. So if you've never been inside the Singapore Esplanade Concert Hall before, this is a great time to go! See you there!

Dui's Day Out (Part 3): Geylang Serai

Raya is coming!!! What better way to celebrate it then by going to Geylang Serai! And that's what the Dui's did yesterday. I am ashame to say that in my one decade living in Singapore, this is the first time I actually visited Geylang Serai during the raya festive bazaar!

The Dui's Adventure started out at 12noon at Payar Lebar MRT station. From there we took a short walk to Joo Chiat Road for lunch at Guan Hoe Soon Nyonya Restaurant. We ordered the Curry Fish Head and Hainanese Pork Chop. The rice and tea were free flow, and they do not charge GST or service charges at this place. Plus, there is usually no crowd there as its far away from any main road, and is a family run restaurant.


After lunch at around 3pm, we set out to explore Geylang Serai. It was just hours of walking in street market spread across multiple fields from Geylang Road all the way to Payar Lebar MRT. The streets were decorated with colourful clothings, colourful drinks, and colourful food as show in the photo here. We walked from 3pm - 11pm just exploring the bazaar! And we didn't even cover all the shops at the other side of Geylang Road!


The only misfortune we had on this trip was spending $3.50 on a Malay food call Botok-Botok. When we came across it, it looked so much like Penang Otak-Otak that we just had to try one! After confirming with the seller that it was indeed fish cook in santan (coconut milk), we purchased one to share. What a disappointment it turned out to be. It was nothing like the creamy fragrant Otak-Otak of Penang. It was instead big chunks of fish (with bones!) cooked in coconut husk and un-identified leaves (which doesn't taste a bit like the soft daun kadok in Penang Otak-Otak. Grrrr! For our homesickness for Penang food, we wasted money eating something that was totally weird! So beware all you Penang people visiting Geylang Serai! Don't be fooled by the appearance of the Botok-Botok!
