Penang International Museum Day 2024

Facebook is a dangerous app. It sometime shows me the event happening around me, and that made me curious and venture out into the world to explore. So on this faithful day, I saw that there was an exhibition in town in conjunction with International Museum Day. Still feeling slightly high from the Wesak Week Walk I had maybe a week before this, I was eager to go recreate the high again. So on this day, I think I headed for my favourite Nasi Kandar first before starting my exploration. Gotta load up on the carbs for activities like this! Nasi Kandar Immigresen is just next to the Goddess of Mercy Temple in Georgetown, and to get to the nearest museum, I had to cut through St George Church above to get to the Penang State Museum.

The Penang State Museum has been under renovation since like, forever. But for some reason, it has opened it's first floor for a special Tiffin Exhibition. Plus, the entrance to this exhibition is FREEEE. So of course I was gonna pay them a visit! A dedicated post of it will be out shortly.

I've also recently found out that there is a Roman Catholic Museum in Penang, called the Diocesan Museum. It so happened that it was more or less, next to the Penang State Museum, and entrance was by donation. Some of the reviews about it was pretty good, so I though I'll pay my due and contribute to the RC Community by paying this museum a visit too. Again, a dedicated post will be out soon on my visit there.  Who would have though Penang has so many museums!

The main event of the day was actually to visit the International Museum Exhibition at Dewan Sri Pinang, a place I've not visit since ages ago. I used to come here every 2 weeks to the library upstairs. The library has since moved to somewhere that is so unaccessible that it really tells you how much the people here value reading! Although there were some good review about this exhibition here on Facebook, I found it to be rather boring and almost school level standard. The people mending the exhibition were also not very engaging, and I was mostly ignored when I visited. Extremely disappointed at the quality of the exhibit, I left to make my way home.

While walking to the bus stop, I passed by the old City Hall building, and it shows that there was a Chinese Art exhibition on. I've never entered this building before. Now, older and wiser, I decided to venture in, if nothing else, at least to look at this beautifully restored old building. Glad I did, it was beautiful inside! Old buildings often are. With their solid stone foundations and exterior, to their solid wood staircase and interior.

The art exhibition was lovely too, although it was more like a sale exhibition. There were some private groups of people there. Again, it wasn't a very engaging or welcoming feel to it all, but I did enjoyed the art work, as well as the beautiful building inside, with their beautiful chandelier hanging from the ceiling. I think it was more of a private event exhibition even though they advertise it as open to public. Oh well. At least I've been inside Penang City Hall building! Again, a day well spent!
