Since we were too early to check in, we headed back to the empty shopping alley in search of lunch. To be honest, we weren't too hopeful to find anything to eat. But thank goodness for my bad Japanese language skills, I managed to read a special limited lunch set offered by the restaurant above and decided to have lunch there. It wasn't open yet, so we walk around a bit more.
Here is the sign I managed to read. It says: Time Service Limited 10 sets. So some Japanese Restaurant likes to have those early bird special limited time set. You always wonder if it's really limited, so you end up going early anyway if you want to try one. For only around 15sgd for a eel set, that's super cheap as compared to Singapore!
When the shop finally opened, we went inside, and wow! What a super cool retro shop! The counter area with the tall chairs, the floor tiles. Everything wooden and slick. Love this place!
We got a table at the back. The menus on the wall were all in Japanese. Don't worry! I wasn't intimidated. To avoid miscommunication, I always take a photo of the menu outside so that I can show them what I wanted to order. While waiting, I can look around more and if I see anything I can read and understand, and would like to try, I add on! But when it comes to food menu, I'm usually above average in my vocabulary! Hahaha.
What my husband ordered. A full eel rice set that comes with picked vegetables and miso.
Mine was a half eel rice set with a side of soba noodles! I though I couldn't possibly finish everyhing! But I did! It was delicious!
Happy customer :) Awesome first meal in Beppu!
