Kyushu 2023 - Kunisaki Fukuji Temple

Our second stop was an ancient Buddhist temple made entirely out of wood, without a single nail. I love that our local tour were visiting all these places that were not very well known to the foreign tourist. That way, wherever we went, there was hardly any crowd. It was a super relaxing visit.

But all shrines or temple almost without saying, comes with stairs.

Here are some of the Japanese ladies in our group. They have no hesitation at all climbing or walking anywhere. I thought they were just amazing! We did end up talking to some of them, and one even told me she used to work in Singapore!

The beautiful temple at the top. The moment you see it, you just fell into silence. There was just something very peaceful and powerful about it, even though it was just a simple wooden structure in the woods.

Our group, wandering around the ground outside. Our guide have actually arranged for a monk to gave us a talk about the place, so we were invited to go into the temple. No photography was allowed inside to preserved the paintings found inside. The walk was in Japanese, but I could understand a little about it. The monk would occasionally use a torchlight to shine at the drawings he was explaining to us, and it was always amazing to watch, because it was so dark inside the wooden temple.

Our group filled the small temple, and we all sat down to listen to the monk. It was almost like listening to a sermon. Very peaceful. Very serene. What a wonderful way to listening to the teaching of Buddha here!

Walking around the outside the temple. The feel of the wooden flooring makes you feel so grounded to nature in some way. The air was so fresh here, and everywhere you look, there were tress. A lovely place indeed.

A sneak peek inside. You can see how dark it is inside. Even in China-Beijing, some of the places were kept quite dark so as to preserved the treasures inside. I think it all just adds on to the mystical feel of the place.

Selfie of me at the wooden gate of the temple, together with the door guardian.

My favourite photo of me, with the two aunties behind me walking down :)
