Sakurajima! That's the reason I wanted to come Kagoshima. Above is the majestic active volcano. And you could visit it! So that was what we were going to do! I can't even remember what we had for breakfast. I just remembered that I was excited as we made our way from our hotel to the ferry terminal to catch a ferry to this magnificent looking island.
The ferry actually runs 24hours, as there are people living on the island itself. So it wasn't really that crowded and fairly straight forward to get on. The ferry also carries cars across. Kinda nostalgic for me of the days the ferry in Penang also carries cars and passengers between Butterworth and Penang Island.
Me watching how they load the cars on to the ferry.
I always find these things fascinating. A different way of life from my very mundane city life in Singapore.
Once everyone was on, or when the time is up, the gates are closed and the ferry was ready to head to Sakurajima.
Before coming here, I've actually watched a variety program about Kagoshima, and they showed that there was an udon shop inside the ferry itself. I managed to find it, but apparently it was not yet open since it was still quite early. I though it was rather interesting to have a noodle shop on a ferry that lasted only 15minutes ride. On the variety show they joked that you have no choice but to finish your udon in 15minutes, lol.
The menu of food they offer at the very small shop.
On our way to Sakurajim, we went pass an aquarium. I didn't even knew they was an aquarium in Kagoshima! I was just dead set on Sakurajima, and another unique train ride to a mysterious place I will eventually get to. But first, onwards to Sakurajima!
