Beijing 2024 - Beijing Duck Dinner, Street Night View and Tea Merchant

Seeing our trip to Beijing was coming to an end soon, after our day exploring Summer Palace and Beijing Library, we decided to have Beijing Duck again one last time. We went back to the same restaurant we dined at a few days back, and more or less ordered the same thing. Above is the JaJiangMen. I never knew how lovely this dish can be served before. I've always only ate this in Korea, and it's always a bowl of black saucy noodles. But here, they way they serve it is so beautiful and fun.

Above, what it looked like after putting in all the toppings and sauce, but before actual mixing. Reserving the pickled garlic to cleanse the palate.

The star of the meal remains, the Beijing Roast Duck. Super love this dish. Would consider going back to Beijing just to eat this. And of course that exploding stomach thing. Lol. I always say that I want to go back to places, but usually I never do. Of all the places I've visited, I think I've only gone back to Rome, and many places in Japan. But other countries are usually just a one time visit, cause the world is so huge! So many other places to explore!

The husband wanted to try some beef rice soup, so we ordered that as well. It tasted ok.

Here is the prices of each dish, and bill. I like countries where everything you see is what you pay, instead of adding on top of it various taxes. 185yuan for 2 person, is around 37sgd for 2 person. Not too bad, considering there is a small portion of Beijing Duck there!

The restaurant is at the alley side of the touristy area, so after dinner we decided to linger awhile and walk through all those small alley ways. It was our last night here after all, so I wanted to soak it all in before we have to leave.

I think walking the small alley way is so much more an intimate experience as compared to the main street. Here you can see back alleys and people going about their life. Locals looking for food to eat here with their families etc. It's nice that it was also nicely lighted up with lanterns.

Normal everyday people on their bikes and EV. A slice of life photo.

Stock and barrel lining the side of the alley way. Another slice of life photo.

Local queue system, plastic stools outside a small restaurant. You don't see these in tourist area where the bigger players are. These stools, these stools are reserved for authentic local experience! Lol.

Eventually we wandered back to the main street, and the husband wanted to buy some tea back. We went into one of the giant tea shops and it was just mind blowing how much tea they have inside. And people buy them by weight, gram, kilogram, whatever.

Here are some teas and how much they are sold for. They are not cheap ok!

I don't know what my husband got. But I did con him out of a tin of White Tea. It was only around 10sgd, and it was pretty good. It came in individual sealed package, and when you opened it, it's actually tea inside, not a tea bag. So I really like it cause I'm always skeptical about the tea bag these days. Hope I can show you more about the tea I got in future post.
