Went with one of my colleagues to the Botanical Garden on our very first photographic outing about a week ago. Here are some of my favorite shots from that day :) Lynx is right after all, once you get a camera, it will get your butt out of the house every week! Interestingly, I didn't take much photograph of flowers. Instead, I end up with lots of green shots, and ants! Lots of ants! And I realize that ants are a tough lot to capture on picture cause they hardly every stand still! Enjoy. My world is green today!
And finally, here are my two favorite shot of the day in full resolution :)
Mwahahaha See? I was right.
ReplyDeleteThe two photos you are fond of, I find interesting for two reasons...
Let's start with the bad news. The lotus shot has good composition, but oh feck, where WERE you focussing? DoF is totally off, if you had gotten the flower in focus, it would have been a great shot. As it is, the shot is great at low res, but high res it's not that great. It's an interesting case because you had the right idea, but the wrong technique to get it done.
The light shot is another interesting case. Typically, photographers HATE lens flare. In this case, not only did you get lens flare, you also got (if I'm not mistaken) multiple internal reflection of the light, so it's a TERRIBLE testimonial of the lens itself... remind me not to buy it.
Yet it's a good shot, because you captured enough of the shadow details to get the contrast. It would have been great if you could have stopped down probably one or two more stops, to get more shadow details, but the shot works great at good resolutions (though the internal reflections get a bit overwhelming at large resolutions).
Actually, looking at your other photos, looks like you got a good eye for framing. I more technically inclined, so I know how to get a particular effect, but I don't have the eye for pictures, so that's a good thing you've got!
Applause! Applause! Cordy should give you a prize for writing such good comments! Please keep up the good work! Perhaps can add in tips like what setting to use when doing certain shots, cause you are totally right, I am still pretty much clueless on the technical side of the camera!
ReplyDeleteI like the particular shots because of one, the flower look just 'hopeful' coming out of the water, and two, although I know capturing the sun ray light that is gonna spoil my lens and view finder screen, I just couldn't help myself, I love capturing sun ray cause sun ray makes me feel happy!
So true to gender bias, looks like guys take photo from a technical angle, and girls take photo (at least for me) from an emotional angle :P But yeah, I'd like to catch up on the technical side too! So drop in more hints! Tips! New Camera! Anything!
To be honest, I still dunno how to focus the damn camera. The screen on the camera looks so damn small and so damn clear, but when I blow it up on the computer screen, it's all fuzzy! Any tips?
