First night back in Seoul, and I picked soondobu for my dinner again. This time, we head to Seoul City Hall area, down an office building that kinda reminded me of those small cafe in Singapore Tanjung Pagar area. We took the bus from our hotel there, and walked to the dinner place.
Above is what my husband had ordered, soba noodles and pumpkin soup. I also love soba noodles, but I love my soondohu more! The shop was owned by a Korean couple who used to work in Singapore before. And they have especially opened the shop at night for us. We practically occupied the whole cafe.
After dinner, we were treated to some home made makgeolli made by the owner themselves. They were going to teach us how to make this korean traditional drink!
So first they showed us the ingredients, mainly made with rice and a starter.....
It's left to ferment in a jar. And basically that's it!
We were given some samples to take home, and also some rice puff cake that they have handmade themselves!
Here is the lady owner preparing all the sample drinks for us. They were both a rather lovely couple. It felt more like dining at a friend or family's home than a restaurant.
We took a group photo in their shop. As you can see, it's really a small cafe, catering mainly to the working crowd during lunch hours. Most of the other shops in the building were closed.
We were also given a sheet of paper with the recipe and instructions, but all in Korean. My husband has made some at home. I didn't dare try it though :P
In case you would like to visit their shop, I've included their name card here.
I like supporting mama papa shops whenever I'm travelling. It's also good to help keep their tradition alive. Dining here is more personal as compared to a high end restaurant or cafe. Here, you can really feel the warmth of the owner :)
