Korea 2024 - Arriving in Seoul, Hotel, Lunch and Hongdae

Trying to blog this over mobile as I'm trying not to skip a day of blogging. This is the start of my Korea 2024 blog entry. I actually have a backlog with the same travel group few years back, but I thought I'll just blog about the recent trip first since it's still fresh in my memory. The reason I went for this trip was mainly because my husband and wanted to experience Korea like a local, and this trip was lead by a Korean teacher of my friend. And that is how we both ended up in Korea April 2024...

We took a red eye flight from Singapore to Seoul via Asiana Air. Upon arrival, we took a bus from Incheon Airport to our hotel in Seoul. We have arrived almost 2 days early in Seoul so that we could explore it with friends first before the actual tour starts on Sunday evening.

Above is our hotel. It's called the Designer Hotel, and they have chained branches all over. We stayed in the one nearer to some university on our first leg of the trip, and one nearer to Seoul Station on our last leg of the trip.

The toilet setting was a bit odd in the hotel. It looks kinda cool in the photo, but to actually have to climb in to the bath tub was a rather slippery affair. And it was quite a shame that we have bath tubs in the room, but not enough relaxing time to actually enjoy them. We were always too tired when we got back.

After checking in and freshening up, my dearest friend was the designated local guide before the Korean teacher takes over. So she took us to a university town Hong-Dae.

It was a super crowded town, filled with people. Perhaps because we just got out of a red eye flight and lack of sleep, or most likely because I'm a hard-core introvert, I did not enjoyed the crowd not the noise of the place at all. Plus, it was a fashionable area, and I wasn't into shopping. I'd have given it a miss.

We did however went to a nice cafe for lunch. And what an interesting lunch it was. They have a machine on each table, and you can order and paid by yourself using credit card. When your order is ready, you go to collect it from a collection counter. I thought that was rather interesting. I have dined in restaurant in Singapore where you also order and paid by yourself, but it's usually via mobile app instead of a dedicated machine on the table 😅

Unfortunately or fortunately, it was a Japanese type of restaurant. I ordered soba noodles cause I wanted something like and soupy. I was happy that it was cold soup too. It was refreshing and delicious! No complaints there, except maybe it would have been nicer to just eat Korean food in Korea? Lol
