Korea 2024 - Seoul Breakfast, Ikseon-Dong Old Street Cafe, and Dinner

The next day, we were still on our own as the official start of our official tour was in the evening where every single one has arrived and checked into the hotel. So for the start of the day, a few of us who were already there went and looked for breakfast. We found this lovely broth restaurant nearby, and we actually went there two days in a row! The broth was super delicious! I ordered the one with pork, and it came with innards and vermicelli sausages. But the best part was the warm soup. It's served with rice and side dishes, and I super love this dish!

Here is the first group of us having breakfast together.

The weather was pretty cool, but I felt warm and happy after having such a lovely breakfast.

After breakfast we went to Ikseon-Dong, an area that used to be an old town just like Insadong, but less popular. At least, that was what my dearest told us, but I still find it rather crowded. Compared to Insadong, the alley here was a lot narrower, and it's just filled with shops and cafe. So the itinerary for the day was shopping and cafe hopping. But actually we only went to one cafe, and it was selected because it had a railway track in front of it.....

Here is what the outside of the cafe looked like. But really, it's just props. There is no train running through it. There were so many types of cafe there, all with their own over-the-top decoration just to get you to stop by and buy something from them.

The cafe was called Nak-Won, and above is the menu and price for your reference. We initially sat outside, as the tables were all filled up inside the cafe. But eventually people left and we all managed to get a table inside before we ordered our drinks and cakes.

I guess it's fun to order beautifully crafted drink and sit in a nice cafe while chatting with friends and being seen from the outside window by strangers?  I must admit the drinks were pretty! Expensive, but pretty.

My friend ordered this Earl Grey chocolate cheesecake, and it was surprisingly nice! I'm not a fan of Earl Grey, but I love this cake. Basically we ordered a bunch of cakes and shared among us so that we can try as many cakes as possible.

Being the cheapskate that I was, I forgo ordering any drink and just ordered a cake. The price of the cake and the drink was almost the same, and even though my husband was treating me, I never felt like it made any sense to spend that kind of money if it wasn't going to maximised my enjoyment factor. And between a drink and a cake, I'll always go with a cake! So above is the matcha cake that I got. Everyone think it looked so pretty. Personally, I wished I've gotten the Earl Grey cake instead! Lol.

I realise later on that they actually have a cake conveyer belt inside the cafe! You can't really sit there and eat cakes like you would a sushi restaurant, but I thought it was soooo coool! I guess you could take a seat at the counter nearer to the conveyer belt and just watch all the beautiful cakes going by. It's like a girl's dream come true! I love it.

Before we left the place, we took a group photo on the train track :)

I think we went to do some shopping after that, and rushed back for dinner. It was our very first dinner together as a whole group, and I think we were late cause we took the train headed to the opposite direction! Hahahaha. Our Korean teacher have booked dinner for us, and she has the most amazing way of ordering the best food in Korea for us. I am never disappointed by her choices. Every meal is an experience by itself! And that night, we had BBQ Pork, with all the kimche and beansprouts and vegetables. Look at that pork! So happy to be just cooking and eating there. Doesn't matter that I hardly know most of the people there.

Here is a group photo of everyone in the tour! The tour is lead by the Korean teacher, and assisted by his brother, which everyone just addressed him as Oppa. The teacher's more senior students also helped out along the trip. Here's to a great start of our Korean Spring Trip 2024!
