Manchester/Scotland 2025 - Manchester John Ryland's Library Stairways

The above cover photo is of a visitor standing a small balcony like section looking up and admiring the ceiling. Tell me that doesn't look like someone looking up in the heavens admiring the wonders of the stars. This post is on the stairways leading up to the library, and yes it needs a whole post by itself!

Above is the view from downstairs looking up the stairs. I can imagine people wanting to take their wedding photos here. It's just so classic looking! I absolutely love love love the windows.

Here is a different view looking up where you can see the circular dome-like ceiling. I love it that you can see glimpse of the natural light from outside even at the dome section. Gosh it looked so elegant. And whoever was in charge of lighting up the place deserves an award! I like how the lightings illuminate the beautiful carved sections of the wall.

As made ourselves up the stairs, I have to remind myself to always look back too. I'm glad I did. The view looking down was just as fabulous.

On the second floor is the door going into the library. The door looked so humble and small as compared to the whole interior of the building. But don't let that fool you! The library itself was a class of it's own! You've got to go to the next section to read about the library :P We're still gonna be stuck at the stairway post for a while.

Here is a my husband at the midway point of the stairways. I took a photo to show how tiny he is against this building. And how wide and tall the stairways were. Were materials really cheap back in the old days that people could have building as grand as this?

Here is a nicer selfie of him.

And of course one of me too at the first floor. Although it doesn't show it on my face, I was beyond happy to be here!
