HTC Magic

It's been more then a year since I got my first smartphone, and now, HTC just launch the HTC Magic in Singapore on June 2009. Just look at the picture. Isn't she a beauty??? But what bothers me is, will I get used to using an Andriod OS? Will it be more lightweight then the bulky WM OS? Will I be able to write my own application easier with a Java based platform? (to get the Android Emulator, click here for more fun! ) Plus, how much is it going to cost me??? My contract is ending next year June, I hope I can get a free Magic by then! woohoo!

HTC Themes

I've been trying to look for Totoro themes for ages, but now the look is over. I can now make my own themes! And since there is a lack of Japanese Anime themes around, I've decided to create some from my fave anime :) Check out the image file here. You can download it and zoom in to see the detail. Themes can be created using the software ThemeGenCE in the reference link given below. Have fun!

HTC Sponge Bob Theme

It has been almost two months since I blog about how much I love my phone :P
So check out the latest theme on my phone here! haha.

For those who are theme junkies, you can refer to wm6themes website for more free themes! And if you don't like what you find there, you can also submit a image file and they will try to convert it to a theme for you in 24hours! How cool is that?

Besides the new theme, I've also downloaded a free Japanese learning software call Kana Benyo, and the cult game Uno

HTC South Park Theme

On a brighter side of things, have I mention lately that I love my phone? Well I love it even more now that I finally realize how easily it is to add themes to my phone! Check out my cool phone UI! I so adore those little kids of South Park.

Nicer themes can be found here as well, but you need an account to access them
Handango

To change the theme:
1. Downloaded theme file *.tsk
2. Copy them to your My Documents folder on your HTC phone
3. Go to Start > Settings > Today
4. Select the theme you want, and click OK
*note: you may want to disable your HTC Home UI to really appreciate the theme you've selected. To do that, after step 3, select the Item tab, and deselect HTCHome from your Today screen.

Mobile Street Map

While trying not to get lost going to a training centre yesterday, I downloaded the map of the location to my mobile phone. However, the map did not tell me how to get there, so I google up StreetDirectory.com. My hubby suggested www.map.gov.sg instead. And when I went to the website, this logo that says "Streetmap in your pocket" just jumps out at me.

Voila! I now have MapKing 2007 installed on my HTC Touch. It isn't the most wonderful software in the world, and heck, I still don't find it very useful. But its cool to have a map of Singapore in your mobile just to show off :P

To download the software, please click here
If you do know of a better software, do let me know!

おサイフケータイWallet Mobile

Looks like my mobile wish lish is slowing coming true. Today's article on Channel News Asia highlighted that Singapore will be implementing the Wallet Mobile soon, where we can use our mobile to pay for purchases. And it seems that they have already conducted a trial on using mobile for EzLink card payment! I can't wait for all these services to come true! Its soooo cool!

The only downside is, the innitiator is Starhub, and I'm a Singtel subsciber :( The only thing I like about Starhub is cable tv, and the dog in it's advertisement :)

Watching TV on my HTC Touch

As if one of my wish list for my HTC Touch application was answered, I clicked on a link last weekend that says "Watch TV on your pocket PC". And voila! Now I watch BBC news daily on my HTC Touch! And here's the photo to prove it too!

Not only do I get world news (BBC, CNBC, CCTV9 etc), I also get to watch other programs like Comedy TV etc. They even have dedicated channel for different sports! And when I am sick of watching TV, I can also tune into world music! And I do all this using the WiFi connection in my house! Not too bad! Haven't tried it in my office yet.

Ah..... never have I love a phone more then my HTC Touch!

Life with HTC Touch

After almost two months with my new phone, things sure have changed in my life. For a start, I now no longer complain about the bus/train taking too long to arrive. I now take my company's shuttle bus to Bugis after work now as the shuttle bus bus-stop has a strong WiFi signal. This saves me S$0.60 each trip :) And my fear on public transport now is the fear of missing my stop!

What do I use my Touch phone for? Well, in two months I have used it for the following usage (besides sms and calling of course):
- Taiwan trip planner and navigator (equipted with maps, contacts, directions and transport information)
- Daily finance tracker (still in need of a better software)
- Reading more news then I normally do via AvangtGo and RSS feed
- Shopping List tracker (still in need of a better software)
- Reading of eBooks via Microsoft Reader
- Daily Jokes
- Daily motivation quotes
- Daily Dharma lesson
- MSN
- Listening to music and watching short clips
- Download and reading my email attachments, especially those power point slide
- Daily scheduler and reminder
- Drawing and scrabbling notes
- First aid and massage lesson
- Aid in working by storing all my cheat files inside
- Using it as a torch light since the screen is so bloody big :P
- Google earth
- And last but not least, countless numbers of games!

How on earth am I ever going to back to keyboard old fashion phone again??? Give me free WiFi connection any day and I am happy! Thank God Wireless@SG will still be free for another 2 years :)

My wish list for my future phones or application provider
- Heartbeat monitor!
- MapMyRun mobile application integrated with Google Earth
- Japanese learning application
- TV receiver! woohoo!
- Wouldn't it be great if I can use my phone as an EzLink card?
- Or even use it as a Credit Card?
- More eServices that can be connected via mobile WiFi
- Bus guide and train guide
- Exercise planner and guide!
- Radio receiver
- Guitar Chord Cheat!

Ok enough for today. Here are some more links for mobile appls :)

HTC Touch

Out of the blues yesterday, I went and brough myself a PDA phone. It was by far the most expensive phone I've ever gotten for myself, costing S$675. Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce to you my latest gadget, the HTC Touch (2nd Generation)! For an intro of the HTC Touch, refer to their official website here.

Here are the pros and cons of it after using it for one day:
Pros:
1. Wonderful UI, using Window Mobile 6.0
2. Love the functionality, from Mobile Office, to RSS Feed, to Organizer, PDF reader, Google Map and CE Star installed enables me to keep up with news, my own schedule and planning, as well as learn Japanese or Chinese on the move. I now also download all mail attachment I get from my gmail to my HTC to view on the go!
3. I especially love the connectivity to the internet via WiFi as my home is wireless, and so is my office. And thanks to Wireless@SG, and WiFi buses, I can be connected even when I am out shopping or taking a long bus ride!
4. The size is compact, not too big, and not long. (My hubby got a Samsung i550 on the same day, but the phone look so bulky and big!)

Cons:
1. Outlook is required if you want to synch your contact and organizer to your PC. I don't have Outlook installed, and the synch software does not recognize Outlook Express which I have. My startup kit only came with a Trial Version of Outlook. This is a major blow to the otherwise wonderful phone.
2. The response time of the phone is a bit slow for me. But then again, my previous Panasonic phone always reboot on me whenever I sms anyone due to my input speed, so this is just a minor issue. On the whole, it hasn't rebooted on me yet, which is more then I was expecting as I was heavily using it the whole of yesterday.

Summary
In the area of phone technology, I've just quantum leap myself from the ice age into the present! This is the first time I am using a pda phone, first time surfing using wifi, and first time playing with RSS Feed! I love them all! In short, it was a good buy for me!

Request
1. If you have any interesting RSS Feed site, please share some with me
2. If you have a blog which I read regularly, can you please enable RSS Feed?

That's all for now!
A new day, a new discovery, a new blog entry :)
