HTC Rhyme Workshop

Attended the HTC Rhyme workshop on 18-Feb-2012. Saw it on their Facebook page and signed up for it, more for the goodie bags that actual interest on the phone. Don't get me wrong, I'm no cheapo who attend events to get free stuff! I just happen to really really like HTC, and really really love their products, and kinda like collecting their gifts :P Before I start, here's a clip on the HTC Rhyme to share.

The event was held at Cathey Cineleisure @ Kbox, and I arrived on time! The presentation lasted one hour, after which food and drinks were provided, and since it was a girl's workshop, you could get your nails done, glitter tattoos, massage and erm, that's it. Nothing fancy. I queued for the tattoos, and we get a pick of 3 designs. All the girls went for the design without the brand. I went for the HTC design :)  I mean, besides me loving the brand, I thought I need to pay back a little for the freebies they were giving me. Besides, I'm really glad I pick that one cause at least it's memorable :)
Next the goodie bags! It's just lovely! It came with a 1GB thumb drive from J'aime, and it was wrapped up in a nice Paris themed envelope which I thought was really really nice touch. The thumb drive is also shaped like a handbag and comes in pink! Adorable! There was also an umbrella inside with a umbrella bag that can be transformed into a carrier bag! I love that as well! And the design was simple and elegant!

Now my thoughts on the workshop. As compared to the Incredible S workshop I attended previously, I felt that this one was a lot more well organized, and the goodie bag was really really wonderful. In terms of product, I love both product, but I'm not the type that buys a new phone every 2 years. But if I am, I would definitely get the phone, the innovation is just lovely! Simple and lovely. Not much to complaint for this workshop except the following:
  • We were really disappointed that the HTC Rhyme did not come in purple color as in most advertisement. They told us they only carry white in Singapore, what a kill joy. And they keep saying ladies go for the design, yet they provided a dull color with no options.
  • The goodie bag came with a SGD200 voucher to purchase the phone with, but the validity is only till end of February. Can't they give us more time if they were really serious in allowing us to purchase the phone?
What I love about the HTC Rhyme? Happy to say lots! (except for the specifications)
  • Love the docking station that transform the phone into an alarm clock/radio while charging it wireless! Awesome, can I have that in all future phone please?
  • Love the charm for the ladies, can we have that in all future phone please?
  • Love the phone cover that came with it! Again, let's make that a standard feature cause I'm having a hard time buying a cover for my HTC Desire and my HTC Flyer! I have no such problem with my HTC Touch cause it came with a cover!
  • Would love it more if it came with better specifications, some ladies do go for specs you know!
  • Would love it more if it came with Ice Cream Sandwich
I now leave you with some wordings from my new umbrella carrier :)
Btw, I just signed up to be part of the HTC community. Hope they accept me. Heck, am thinking of applying for a job there too! Will see how that guess :)

HTC Incredible S Workshop

Playing catching up on my blog. Tonnes of stuff I wanted to share or write about, but work has been insanely busy lately, and so is life :) So let me try my best to fill this blog up as much as possible!

Attended the UOB-HTC Incredible S workshop at Vivo GV Gold Class on 16-April-2011. How would I miss a free event invite of my favourite phone and credit card? They were giving us a 1 hour interactive workshop and a free movie!

Needless to say, it was the highlight of my week then. I was at GV by 9:30am to collect my tickets. But I guess I was expecting too much. The only thing that really wow-ed me was actually the Gold Class Cinema. Everything else could have been better. Still, I enjoyed it. Here are some highlights:
  • While waiting at the lounge, peanut and drinks were served! And we got to play with the Incredible S which was extremely thin! Love it! But a bit ex, and my phone is only 1 year old, so I guess this will just have to wait
  • GV Gold Class was awesome! See pix on right side. Smarties! And we got to order more drinks, popcorn and a snack (I picked nachos) and a server serving us through out the movie.
  • Goodies bag were given out after the movie, and I love the HTC phone holder. (sorry no photo. I'll upload if I can later on)
  • Got to know some of the features of HTC Sense in the new Incredible S running on Gingerbread.
And now, the could improve section:
  • Although we were told to go 30 mins earlier to collect our tickets, the organizer was obviously not ready for us at 930am. We had to wait around 10-15 mins before the doors were open. Also, no clear sign to welcome us and tell us where to go, we were pretty lost.
  • Some weird moments: Attending a HTC event, but before the movie start, an iPhone 4 advertisement was shown....Almost immediately the motto that "HTC took care of all the details...." kinda went out the window. As this was also a UOB joint event, we also saw a CitiBank advertisement before the movie .....hahaha, it was almost funny. You're paying your customer to watch your competitor's advertisement! Hello!
  • At the end of the movie, most of us remain at our seat as we though the organizer would say a few words. After more uncomfortable silence, we got up and walk out of the cinema. The HTC staff were waiting for us and handed us our goodies bag..... And that was it.....
I can't help feeling a bit lost through out the whole session. The only moment that actually benefit me and my husband was when we went to talk to the speakers. Strangely, we were the only two person who did that. No one else seems to be interested in the product at all. And at the way the whole event was organized, I kinda wonder what were the objectives of the organizers???

Still, thanks for the experience of playing with the new phone, for keeping us well fed, and the great experience of watching a movie at GV Gold Class! I'm still supporting HTC, and Android :)  But it's so uncool that the HTC Sense map download is only available on the new phone. Why not make it upgradeable for the older phones as well???? Please please please?

Froyo!

Also known as Android 2.2, is now available for update for HTC Desire phones in Singapore! Important: please ensure there are at least 25MB available on your Internal Phone Storage.

To check Internal Phone Storage:
Click Menu button > Settings > SD & Phone Storage

To update follow the steps below:
Click Menu button > Settings > About Phone > System software updates > Check Now

Make sure you download the upgrade using Wi-Fi only. After download, you can install it direct if you have enable backup of your data. It should take less then 30 minutes to update.

After update, you may have to reconfigure some minor settings like input type. Your T9 would also most likely be wipes out. My contacts are stored on SIM card, so you may want to do the same.

For me, there was no data lost what-so-ever. I imported my contact list back to the phone, and all previous bugs I have with my contact list have all been resolved! The contact list are now linked with my SIM Phone, Facebook and Gmail. I should be able to link up with Twitter as well, but currently I think Twitter is upgrading their security, thus most old application needs to be patch before it can connect back to Twitter.

After the upgrade, my HTC is so much faster! There is no lag now when I do simultaneous sync! Froyo also allows you to sync your phone with your iTune! That has been tested and pass! I found a cool Torchlight application inside the new HTCSense that uses the phone camera flash instead of the screen as a torchlight. HTCSense's Friendstream has also been improved to show 'Likes' & 'Comments' from Facebook.

To read more of Froyo's capability, please refer to Ref links provided.

iPhone vs HTC

While comparing the HTC Android phone and the iPhone, I came across this damn funny youtube. I initially wanted to post it on my facebook, but then again, lots of my friends own an iPhone and some might get offended. So I decided to post on my blog instead. No offense intended to anyone who do own an iPhone. I just find this damn funny! (Warning, lots of 4 letter word....)

My HTC Desire

My HTC Desire is one week old today! And her name is Claire since her OS is an Eclair 2.1 :) Here's a brief review of her so far for those readers who might be thinking of getting an Android phone.

Here's what Claire looks like. On the left is the main screen. Just a word of caution, Android phones are very customization, so be prepared to spend lots of time on the Android forum and market place to personalize your phone! So on the left screen is the main screen, with a clock, easy access to phone functions, and all my on/off button, calendar and to do notes. Even the to do notes are cool! And if you think the main screen is cool, just zoom out from it and you have 6 more screens to play with! Totally awesome! Reminds me of my uni's Linux lab where it comes with 4 desktop features! Love it! And the best part is, you have the freedom to customise every single one of them!

So on the left here is one of my customized screen where I store all my application I downloaded from Android Market. Each folder actually opens up to more screens! (LoL), but I'm too lazy to show you all of them :P The screen on the right is one of my other customized screen which I plan to use to motivate myself to learn Japanese! Side note: Lots of cool Japanese application available for Android! And they are so cute too! Check out the news-feeder that has an icon of a chicken! Kawai! And if you haven't notice, there's a cute Japanese girl on every top left corner of every screen. Her name is Yuzuko, and she tells me the time every hour so that I don't miss my bedtime and end up reading forums till 4am! Accompany her up there on the task bar is another personal Android just to keep her from feeling lonely :P

Lastly, if you've noticed those little free men that keeps poking their head out on almost every screen, they are my Android animated live wallpaper! Aren't they cool? They remind me of a toy I used to have when I was a kid.

That's all for now. Will follow up with cool application review soon! Stay tune!

Hello Cordy!

WTF, downloading and installing of stuff from scratch took 2 hour which is still acceptable. The code took 30 minutes to setup and configure. But the bloody emulator took me 1 hour to start up and load the program. After which, it finally said "Hello" to me, but not before I spend a good amount of time in more forum trying to read up why it's taking so long to load! Grrrr. Oh well, at least it's working now :)

If you feel like you can't sleep at night, do refer the reference link below for some fun and excitement! Cheers!

MyEclair!

I've always had a weak spot for anything chocolaty :P
