Kyushu 2023 - Exploring Beppu Town and Seaside

After lunch, I can't remember whether we went back to the hotel, or just wander around town more. Above is the famous old bath house, one of the oldest bath house in Japan! It looked super deep in history. I had wanted to experience it, but again, my husband wasn't a fan of a place filled with naked people. Plus, our hotel came with it's own onsen free, where else we had to pay to go into this one.

Some historical explanation of the bath house.

The whole town of Beppu, was really frozen in time. It was like walking through a life size museum!

The shopping street, rather empty, was filled with retro shops that were mostly closed. We did managed to buy some strawberries for only 200yen from one of the shop. To be honest, I like supporting the locals when I visit such places. The problem here was, there wasn't much shops I can support since most were closed!

There was an area filled with these long nose demon. It was a shrine, and people actually come pray or pay their respect to it. I was fascinated cause I kinda like this demon.

There are even signs telling you more about this demon which translate to Heavenly Dog Creature?

Even the manpower covers in Beppu was retro and frozen in time.

Beautiful shots for my collection :)

Love the sun light in the photo above too.

We wandered further up to the seaside. Here is a poem about the sea? Wind? Sea breeze? Lol.

The seaside had a lot of concrete wall all around. I guess Beppu was facing the ocean, and large wave was a danger during typhoon. The scene reminds me of Keelung in Taiwan, also another prone to typhoon area.

All the fishing boats were all parked inside the concrete wall protection area. It was a lovely place to walk, with lovely sea breeze. We spent some time here, and perhaps went to the nearby shopping mall too. For a quiet town, we actually found 3 shopping malls within walking distance of our hotel, of which one of them is a Donki store!
