Beijing 2024 - Forbidden City Bathhouse 'Bower of the Spirt Pool'

At some corner of the palace, there was a place that highlighted a modern western style bathhouse. So when I saw the sign pointing to it, I followed it, hoping to see something similar to a bathhouse I've seen in Bath, England. Walking in to the courtyard, the architecture sure does looked western and different! But it looked incomplete.

Walking around it, I was trying to find the pool/bath, but wasn't really sure where it was. The building looked more like a church or something. And apparently, it was a bathhouse that was not completed. And it remains a kind of mystery why it was constructed here.

Reading through some of the google references, it seems that one of the emperor commission it to be built after hearing about the healing properties of the western bathhouses.  I though it a pity they didn't complete the building. I bet it would looked just as grand as all the other buildings here.

But now, it's just a ruin, of concrete and metal.

You could walk all around it, but you can't enter it. Probably unsafe since it's half constructed and forever frozen in time like this.

Here's the official info found at the site for your reading pleasure.
