Beijing 2024 - Lunch at the MuTianYu Great Wall (慕田峪长城) Area

There are many places where you can visit the Great Wall. It was after all, a very long wall across China. We did ours at MuTianYu area. I booked the tour cause I really didn't know how to get here on my own and didn't want to take any chances. It was expensive as I booked via Klook, but it did include a lunch.

Entrance to the Great Wall Area....

A map at the entrance explaining the different points of the Great Wall. Our guide have also explained the stations that we could visit during our ride here. He advice us to visit two stations, and walked to another one if we wanted to. It was still all very confusing for me. All I wanted is to see the Great Wall, and touch the stone of it. That was  my minimum requirement of this trip.

A photo of our guide giving us a lecture of the points we were headed to.

And then he guarded us to the area where we could be set loose to explore on our own. Walking in passing cheesy shops like any tourist attractions has. If you see colourful umbrellas hanging upside down on the streets, its cheesy touristy! Stay away from the shops!

Saw a tea shop here. Didn't have time to go explore. Got to go climb the Great Wall first!

We were lead to the foot of a hill, and was told where we could redeem our lunch. Our guide showed us the restaurant, and where to walk to reach the cable cars that will bring us up to the wall station. He also showed us where our bus would be back for the journey back. After that, we were pretty much left to our own to wander around. Me and the hubby decided to have lunch first since we were used to early lunch. So we headed to the restaurant.

Not knowing what to expect, we were seated once we told them our guide's name. It looked like a typical Chinese restaurant. Not too high end. We did get a table to ourselves. If you come in a group, you will get more dishes to share. Since it was just the two of us, we weren't expecting much.

We got served KongBao Chicken with rice. I was pretty happy to see rice! And it being a Chinese restaurant, the food wasn't bad at all! It was easy to eat with the rice. The portion was also quite huge. Food seems to be pretty affordable in China.

We were even served a plate of vegetable. You have to purchase drinks on your own. Plain vegetables always taste good to someone who lives in Singapore. Most vegetables in Singapore is tasteless as we get everything imported. So even though it was just plain cabbage, it was pretty tasty!

After a satisfying lunch, we were ready to hike up the hill to get to the cable car station. We were given all our entrance tickets before hand.

All you have to do is scan the ticket QR code to enter.

The walk up. It wasn't half bad, really. There were some stairs when we reached the cable car station, so it wasn't that friendly to older people with walking issues. Plus it was after the rain, so it could get slippery.

Finally! Our cable car up! We got a car to ourselves, and enjoyed the ride up trying to see the first sight of the Great Wall! So exciting!
