I was given a loaded Touch n Go card by my husband, and when I told my cousin about it, off we went on our first over-sea road trip, to Taiping! Boy, I can't even remember when was the last time I went there. I think I was still in primary school, or maybe even younger? I can't say I remember much about it.
It was a quite drive, around 1 hour or so to get there once we crossed over to the mainland. Since we went on a weekday day time, there wasn't much traffic. Yay to early retirement while you're still mobile! It's coming to almost two years now, and I'm still loving it! Above as we exit the highway and made our way to Taiping!
The first sight that greeted us was actually the Taiping Jail -_____-""" Not exactly something I wanted to see! But the welcome sign was just so big that it kinda act as a landmark signalling our entrance to the small town.
As we drove along the road making our way to the town center, we passed by a few charming buildings along the way. Above is the Taiping Museum. I would say it looked a lot better than the Penang Museum, or even the Ipoh Train Station! Was it recently newly renovated? Kudos to the people of Taiping! Such a welcoming sight!
We also saw some small churches along the way. Above is one that reminded me of those churches you see on TV from a small outskirt town in western movies. I simple adore features like this. It made me feel like I've stepped out of my comfort zone.
After a short drive, we arrived at the town center, and more old buildings can be seen all around the town. It is a very small town, but the buildings were extremely charming.
I especially love these traditional blinds from the retro period. They are harder to spot these days, and most are actually hand painted, or specific to the store. So it's kinda like looking at art pieces whenever I come across them. I've seen some beautiful ones in Ipoh too. Strangely, I don't really notice them in Penang. I'm sure they are there! I'm probably just blinded sided since I live there :P
Road trip with my Kak Laz, a.k.a. Cousin Helen Yeo Beautiful :P
