Besides the hole in the wall food vendors, behind those wall is actually a full department store selling all sorts of sweets and cakes! The entrance is rather small as compared to the massive food windows outside, so one could easily have missed it! I for one wasn't even aware that there was a a department store here! All the research I did mainly just focuses on the hole in the wall food places.
Walking inside, you will find that the department stores are actually less hectic than the food shops outside. It was easier to browse and shop inside. Granted not all the items are the same. Above, some baked goods.
China Chinese is actually a different world from the Malaysian Chinese community that I grew up with, so all the food here were pretty alien to me. It was so fun browsing at the goods here. They don't provide samples for me to try though. Above are sweets make of red dates at the front, and camel milk candy behind. I bought some of both to try. I didn't like the red dates sweets at all cause they were just too sweet!
I also bought these nougats and simply love them! I plan to buy more whenever I am in China again. They tasted nothing like those hard and sticky nougats from Australia that I grew up eating. These were light and filled with nuts or fruits! They weren't very cheap, but they were definitely worth the price I paid cause I really enjoyed every single one of them!
Above is brown sugar from Yunnan. They come in different flavour, so I bought some to try too. They are still in my fridge in Malaysia! Lol. They looked so cool and I just really wanted to try them. You just put them in hot water and dissolved it to make a cup of sweet drink.
I also bought a box of this assorted cakes cause, why not. It looked so cool and fun to eat!
