Kyushu 2023 - Beppu Checking-Out and Lunch at Beppu Station

Thank you snacks for the hotel staff. I bet only the Indian staff would appreciate this :D

Yes, I have a habit of gifting local snacks from my hometown to locals whenever I travel in Japan with my husband. It's a fun thing to do, and people are usually surprised and happy to receive them. But when we give them to hotel staff, we usually leave it in the room when we checked out. Interestingly, I don't think I've ever tipped a hotel staff before. I mean, money is such a boring concept, right?

Before checking out from our Beppu accommodation, we had a slow breakfast in the room, from food bought the day before at the supermarket. No hurry, our train was after lunch anyway.

I think this is my breakfast, with jelly for fiber, almost a vegetarian rice set, and canele to sweeten the deal.

Once checked out, we dragged our luggage and walked to Beppu station which was ten minute walk away. Beppu town was rather small and compact and we really liked it. Except for the almost dead night life and the old shopping street, we still managed to find 3 malls around us to keep us happy. I hope the tourism business improve for them. They have such a beautiful surroundings. Or maybe everyone was staying at Oita, which was a bigger city just a few train stops away..... I don't know. I always prefer to stay in sleepy town away from the crowds.

Since it was still early for our train, we decided to have lunch first. Beppu was famous for their chicken, so I wanted to eat that one last time before leaving Beppu. So happens there was a popular restaurant at the station that sell just that! Lucky me!

It was crowded, but we still managed to get seats for lunch. We both ordered chicken, and what a lovely simple meal it was. I don't know why I don't cook this at home at home more often. Perhaps in my family, fried chicken usually comes with rempah, else it was considered a western food. But it seems to work in Japanese cuisine. Just fried chicken, and rice and salad. I love home western style of food just seems to blend into Japanese everyday home cooked meals.

Here is my husband's set, this is the normal karaage chicken. I usually avoid this dish cause sometimes they blend ginger into their chicken coating, which I hate! Interestingly, I realised that Saboten karaage doesn't have this issue, and I love the one they served at Changi Airport!

While waiting for train, I went around to take more photos. Since Beppu is an onsen town, I love how they blended the culture of onsen even in their stations!

Won't be long now before our train arrive and takes us to our next destination!
