With around 4 hours to kill before we catch our return train back to Kumamoto, we slowly wandered out from the station. And my my, what a view! Above is, basically, the whole of the train station and it's surrounding area. No high rise buildings, nada. Luckily, it was a beautiful day!
Here is a close up of the station among with the town as backdrop.
So right in front of the station, we saw this weird cone shaped building. I think it's a light house, although it looked kinda short for one. But it was the closest thing that looked like tourist attraction, so we made our way there.
Here is a close up of the light house, as well as an info map about the area Amakusa. Nearby was the ferry port where most people were headed or coming from. Nobody seems to be interested in the light house. Maybe this was a common sight all over Japan. Only foreigners are awed by a weird looking light house.
Walking inside the light house, it was almost empty! And I was surprised that there are stairs and path all the way up, and you were allowed to climb up. How did you think I got such a nice view of Mizumi town in the first photo! So up we went! I felt like I was in some kind of Japanese anime at this point. A sci fi one too!
At the top of the light house, the view was fantastic. Especially looking out at the sea and the islands around it. Plus, the architecture of the light house was very harmonious. I want to say symmetrical, but since this is a triangle light house, in a place call triangle, I guess harmonious is a better word to describe it. When people say the design has clean lines, I imagine this is what they were talking about.
It didn't even felt like I was in a small town in Japan. It felt like I was in some holiday seaside city in Europe or something. Yes, I have bias imagination that is kinda pro-west, but that is slowly changing. Actually, after I stopped working and started travelling, I realised how brain washed I was since I was a child. Partly because my family is English educated and English speaking, my world as a child was filled with Western wonders. But as I slowly grow up, I started to change and embraced the wonders of the East.
Ok, maybe a seaside resort in South Korea? I know a place in Busan that looked like this! Lol.
From the ground floor looking up! Spirals! UGH! I hate spiral shaped things. There was also a communal piano there. At times like this, I wish I could play it. But I never even made it past one year of piano lesson when I was a child. Should I start learning again? There are just so many things I want to learn, and too lazy to start learning them. Travelling and updating this blog itself is already a full time job!
View of the boats and ferry area.
And here is Cordy the explorer trying to figure out the map! I too want to hop on a ferry and go to some resort island from here. But I didn't even know such place existed until the A-Train brought me here. Ah, but now I know! And I have a life time left to visit Japan <3
