Kyushu 2023 - Kunisaki Futagoji Part 3

Praise the Gods! My laptop has been recovered! Thanks to my wonderful hubby! So we can now continue on our normal blogging method, and I think I will do more backup and also upload all the photos I've edited for this blog entry before they give me a heart attack again! So where were we? Ah, in the magical forest of Kunisaki, deeper and deeper we went after seeing the Futagoji. To be honest, I though that would be the highlight of this spot, but behold! A temple underneath a cave! (Or more like, build into one)

So up and up we went after climbing the stairs of Futogoji. And if there are torii gates, we were going through them. That's how things work in Japan! I know some people may cautious over entering unknown places, and I'm also a fan of haunted spot videos, but when I am there, it is seldom I felt anything that stopped me from entering.

More stairs to climb! But the forest is so beautiful, it's ok!

And soon we saw it. Actually I wasn't even expecting any 'it' to see. I was just happily walking along the path. But when we encounter it, it was so pretty. A small wooden temple, build in front of a cave? In the entrance of a cave? So pretty!

It's almost like something out of a fairytale.

You could even walk inside, and also along it. I can just imagine being a monk here. My heart would have filled with joy everyday just being here. To be so near the beautiful forest. Love the wooden structure of the whole place too.

The mysterious door that was closed and seems to be leading into well, a stone wall or a cave opening? Who knows.

And so ends our local day trip to Kunisaki. We were even given souvenirs from the tour guide, a paper wind mill! I also gave the tour guide and driver some local snacks I've bought along with me as a thank you to them. On our way back, we went to a local supermarket and bought sushi back to the room for dinner. Since it was our last night in Beppu, we kinda treated ourselves with sashimi too.

Oh, so here are some of the dessert cheese I love from Japan. I especially love the orange chocolate flavoured cheese. They do sell these brands in Singapore, but I don't know why they always limit themselves to just the few normal flavours when you can might more interesting flavours in Japan!.
