Sentosa Flowers 2009 Event

Here's a follow up to my post on the Sentosa Flowers 2009. Me and my husband went to the event on the 24 January Saturday. It was also the first time I use my Maybank Credit Card to get free entry to Sentosa! And boy am I going there more often since I get free 10 years entrance with it!

The event was just ok. Nothing great about. The hot Singapore weather was more or less killing the flowers at the exhibit, and it was only the first day! I wonder how many plants actually died in the event! And I was rather disappointed that there wasn't much gardening stuff on sale, so unlike the Singapore annual Garden Show. All in all, for a free entrance to see the event, I guess I can't complaint much.

For a limited time only, some photos I took on that day can be found to you right of this blog :)

Your Biological Age

After watching a show on Discovery Home and Health call How To Live Longer, I took a test at Grow Youthful site to find out my biological age. Here's my result :) Not too good, but not too bad either. There is always room for improvement! If you would like to take the test, go to the reference site below.

Discovery Home and Health (UK)
Definition of Biological Age

Your chronological age is 32
Your biological age is 31

Congratulations! The way that you are currently living your life should slow the rate at which your body is ageing. You should already look, feel and act younger than your chronological age

You seem to be in good physical and mental health, feeling good about both yourself and your body. You should be able to live a fulfulling and independent life

General Health. Excellent

Immune System. Excellent

Toxic Load. Good result with scope for improvement

Body Fat / Weight. Changes in your weight and body fat have been well maintained

Exercise. Scope for improvement. Your current exercise regime is contributing to aging faster than is necessary

Stress / Expectations. A different outlook on life will slow your rate of aging and improve your health

Food & Digestion. Scope for improvement in this crucial area. Without effective digestion the benefits of an excellent diet are wasted. Other positive factors which you may have in your life, such as good exercise, lifestyle and outlook, will also be less effective

Male / Female. Plenty of scope for improvement, no matter what your circumstances

BMI: 24. You are on the heavy side of normal. This gives you a reasonable prognosis for longevity and good health, especially if a high proportion of your body weight is muscle rather than fat. However, to optimise your chances of a long life and total health, you could lose a little more body fat

The most important things you can do are to:

* get the best possible information available on aging
* gently adopt more healthy living habits and attitudes that really feel good for you (the test is that you'll be feeling happy and really enjoying your life)
* so they are easy and feel quite natural to continue with for the rest of your life
* ensure you are familiar with the most important life extension basics

Rate of Aging
Your outlook on life and your lifestyle indicates that your rate of ageing should be slightly slower than is expected of most people in your age group

Your answers indicate that many of your habits and attitudes are likely to promote your health and longevity, though there are several aspects that could be improved

You are still at risk of a variety of degenerative diseases such as obesity, depression, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, wild mood and energy swings, skin inflammations and cancers

If you maintain your current lifestyle and attitudes you will probably continue to age only a little slower than most people

Exercise Journal

Here's a follow up to my AIBI post in September 2008. My exercise journal since I got the machine until to date.

I am actually exercising more often then I did pre-AIBI days. Although the cost per exercise is still rather high, it is already lower now then gym membership per month! And I've only used it for 3 months! (excluding December the makan month :P )

Physically not much change yet, but the following was noted:
1. I actually do better on Word Challenge on Facebook after exercising :P
2. Better toned arms
3. Better skin texture
4. Improved in stamina, I can do 40 mins without being exhausted now
5. I burn more calories after drinking caffeine :P

I love the machine cause I can exercise at 11pm at night and its ok! And I can exercise in total darkness and its ok! And lastly, I don't need to travel to any gym or classes. I just get on and just do it :)

A New Earth

If you are a fan of the Oprah Show, you would know that some of my book list on the right are actually books from Oprah's Book Club. And although I am always excited about the books recommended in the show, my excitement always crashes down when I actually read the book itself. However, today I am going to share with you one exceptional book that I haven't even completed reading yet, but which I find to be a really beautiful and meaningful book. It beats many of the non-fiction books I've read so far, and I highly recommend it to you. The book is called A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. You can find it in your neightbourhood libray (although a reservation might be a more effective way of actually getting the book).

Aside from the book, you can also watch lectures on the same topic at Oprah.com! Just download the web classes here. Awesome awesome book! If you've read it, do let me know what you think about it. I'm currently just half way thru it.

KTM Trip to Dangan City Mall (The whole story)

As some of you might have known, there was an article on some journalist's same trip to Dangan City Mall on last Saturday's NST paper. What I find disturbing about the article is, it doesn't really reflect the whole actual experience of the trip at all. If the article had given a clearer picture of the trip, I might not have taken mine on 14th January 2009. So to save some of your the trouble of what I've gone thru, here is the exact account of my trip.

On Saturday morning, I made my way to KTM station to purchase a ticket for my Wednesday trip. The KTM officer told me that they do not sell advance tickets to Dangan City Mall. So you plan to go, please purchase the ticket on the actual day.

Wednesday morning, we went to get our tickets at 10am for our 2pm train. The ticket is free seating, and we were instructed to take the last cabin. The train left the station on time, which was a good point. However, in the same cabin, some longer distance traveller actually has tickets with seat numbers. Thus there were a lot of chaos as people with free seating tickets were told to change seats. I saw an old lady who was told to vacant her seat 2 times before the train took off. And when the train reached Johor Bahru station, more people got on, and she was told to move again! The free seating ticket was obviously not very convenient at all! We had to move once as well.

The train arrived at Dangan City Mall at 3pm+, which is way below 90minutes that was estimated. We rushed to get out return tickets back, however the KTM officer again say, no advance tickets are sold. The only train back was at 8pm, and the ticket will be sold from 7:30pm onwards. That didn't go down too well for me, the fact that I couldn't secure my seat home was a minus points for KTM.

Next, Dangan City Mall itself. The verdict? Not worth going unless you plan to do the following: Get a Manicure or Pedicure (RM40 for a classic pedicure), get a traditional chinese massage (RM25 for 40minutes!), or get your hair done (I got a haircut for RM30 from a salon). There are no fast food in the mall, only 1 food court which was rather empty. Empty as in not more then 2 table occupied each time we walk in. There is however a decent Old Kopitiam shop in the basement which has a pretty decent version of Penang Fried Koey Teow. We had our lunch and dinner at the same shop.

Aside from Metro Jaya, there was not much shopping to be done as almost 70% of the shoplots there are vacant. There is an archery and a bowling alley there, but no cinema (which is another minus point). Even the supermarket at the basement was a disappointment. I felt that hype of Dangan City Mall was obviously very prematur as the retail market was obviously not prepared to receive the customer from Singapore.

We got out tickets at 7pm even though the KTM uncle told us earlier that he would start selling at 7:30pm. The train was scheduled to arrive at 8:08pm, but it arrived closed to 8:28pm instead. Again the ticket was free seating, and it seems there were no control on the tickets as some of the passanger from Dangan City Mall Station has to stand until other passager got off at JB Station. We reached Singapore at around 9:45pm.

The bad points were obviously the chaotic KTM train seat arrangements, and the train schedule. And Dangan City Mall needs to buck up if it plans on winning the Singapore retail market.

But the plus points are: very cheap massage and other services, cheap food and grocery shopping! And the train ride from Singapore to JB was very very relaxing! Would I go again? Yes! Why not! But maybe in another 6 months or so. There is also an hourly shuttle bus from Dangan City Mall to Dangan Bay which I am interested to explore. So there, hope you get all the info you need from this blog entry. Do let me know if you do make a trip there, and do share your experience!

Just Share

One of the things on my "Life's To-Do List", is to get a photo published in the National Geographic magazine. To date, I've only submitted one photo to NatGeo so far, and although it was not publish, I kinda feel good about it in the sense that, hey, at least I've tried!

Today I am looking more at the local scene, and have started to submit my photos to the Singapore National Library Board instead. After living in Singapore for 10 years, I actually have more photos of Singapore then I do of my own country Malaysia! So if you're an arden fan of photography, or would like to view Singapore through photos taken by everyday people, do visit Public Libraries Singapore, and click on "Just Share". I enjoyed browsing thru some of the photos there very much.

Here's one of the photo I've uploaded titled "Progress - Always Moving Forward" to share with you guys. It's one of my favourite shots of Singapore :)

Oh by the way, National Geographic Society opened a store in Vivocity recently. Do check it out!

KTM Service from Tanjong Pagar (SG) to Danga City Mall (JB)

Read about this in the newspaper today and feeling rather excited about it. I love JB! And I can't wait to make a trip there soon. Might be going on 14th Jan to do some CNY shopping as I am on leave :) KTM is operating 4 daily trips to this mall (but at an unearthly morning hours!). Check out the schedule. Total estimated trip time from Tanjong Pagar to Danga City Mall is 90 minutes. Hope they build some cinema and hotel soon at the site, then we can just hop on a train and spend the weekend there! Woohoo!

Post Note:
As most of my blog hits seems to be hitting this page, I thought I'll add in this entry for your info as well. Read about my day trip to Dangan City Mall here.
