Kyushu 2023 - Kagoshima Ibusuki Beach

After lunch, we continue our walk to the Sand Bath, and man, what an awesome sight we saw there!

The place looked kinda run down actually. There were some homestay and small in around, but not many people or tourist. It was a super quiet place.

Here are some of the views of the place. The little hut on the right are for people who would like some privacy while enjoying their sand bath. I guess it does protect you from the sun too on a hot day. But wouldn't it be kinda stuffy? You could still see the sea from inside though.

The view before actually reaching the beach. The area looked kinda out of place. It doesn't look like the normal friendly beaches that I am used to.

There were some mountains behind those water. So I was beginning to wander, was that the sea, or just a lake? Was the water salty?

A stone platform with a bridge connecting it. You can see smoke starting to come out of the sand here. It looked like a sacrificial platform! And the smoke from the sand, it creates an illusion of the lake one has to cross when one is dead and needed to cross to the other side....

A man walking at the beach. So much steam coming out of the sand. So what is a sand bath? It's basically you burying yourself on the beach and enjoying it as the steam warms up your body. It's supposed to be relaxing and detoxing. Kinda like a spa. Kinda like an onsen, but with sand instead of water. And no, you don't have to be naked in the sand. You get to wear some tower around you.

What a surreal photo, a clock at the beach. It does really reminded me of a fantasy land. Like a land of dreams. Or death, with the clock telling you that your time is up! But coming back to the real world, the clock is like those clock inside the sauna. It's there so that you can check how long you have been steaming yourself in the sand.

There were some chairs you could just sit and enjoy the bare gloomy beach to. The area we were walking around was probably run by the hotels nearby, or the spa company.

This is one of the worker, walking around the beach. I wanted to walk on the beach too, but I wasn't sure if my shoes would melt on it, hahahaha. Anyway, the worker can help dig you a hole in the sand for you to lay inside, and bury you up in sand with just your feet and your head sticking out. I was quite tempted to try it even though I was kinda claustrophobic at the thought of it. But my husband refuses to try it with me :(  Maybe next time then.....

Oh well, time's up. We headed back to town, stopping by a small supermarket to look around. We ended up at the station quite early for our train, and just sat there watching the world go by in a small town. I like holidays like these, but my husband sadly doesn't. I guess he felt like it was a waste of a day to come here and do nothing but walk around a small town :(

I did manage to see some cool manhole in Ibusuki! So here is one of Pokemon for my collection!

And one of Ibusuki City for souvenir :)
I have no regrets coming here. It was one of the most surreal places I've ever visited.
