Hanoi - Exploring the food in the Market and Night Market

20-Nov-2017, Sapa - At around early evening, we made our way out of the comfort of the hotel and walked to the nearby market. The market consist of two stories, 1st storey selling herbs, eat, local products, and lots of NorthFace clothes for some reason, and other souvenir. 2nd storey was mainly clothes and souvenir, with a section on aborigine handy craft materials. If you walk outside the market, you will also find stall selling fruits and vegetables. Walk all the way to the back of the market, and that's where the food are located!

Bun Cha! But there was no place to seat and eat, so I ordered one spring roll instead, and she sold it to me. After eating it, I actually went back to bough like 4 or 5 more. They were so delicious although a bit oily.

My husband saw this pork jelly delicacy he likes and bought one slice of it. It was just ok for me. I don't really fancy this very much. After eating and buying some rose bud which I wrote about here, we made our way back to our hotel.

We spotted the above commotion on our way back and decided to cross the muddy streets to investigate. It looked like some kind of local fair...

Lo and behold, it was a night market! And the ground was soaking in mud! But that didn't stop ladies wearing high heels from walking on them! I kid you not! Anyway, we walk around exploring this unique night market. They sold a lot of strange stuff, like the above what looks like mala ingredient. Kinda felt like China to me. Later I asked my guide what this fair was, and he told us it is kinda like a fair selling China stuff and Vietnamese stuff. Mmmokay....

The fish sauce was strong here as well. All sorts of fish sauce. You could even pour yourself a glass and try them, like the way you may try wine or tea, or soya sauce.

They also sold all sorts of preserved plums and pickles etc. Felt kinda like Chinatown during Chinese New Year!

Here's a close up on those sweet plums and dried fruits.

Above is what we actually had for dinner. It is kinda like Vietnamese pizza, but with a fishy kind of taste. We got one just to try, and it was an aquaired taste, but the more you eat, they more it grew on you, so we went back to get seconds. The rice skin is really crispy and fragrant, and it goes really well with whatever they put inside it. I think it's dried shrimps... Plus you can top it up with quail eggs too! Yummy.

Here's a close up of the lady making our pizza for us. She also sold all sorts of coloured water.

And lastly, here's me eating the pizza just outside the entrance of the fair ground. The sign here shows what kind of fair it is, and look how misty it is! Lol.
